Architectural Plans for the Wilderness and Nature Culture Museum

Project Duration: August 1, 2023 – December 31, 2025

Funding: South Karelia Regional Council, JTF

Group Project ID: R-00926

The project will implement the architectural plans for the Wilderness and Nature Culture Museum, which will be located in the current town hall of Imatra, along with related museological plans and investigate alternative locations for the collection center with related measures. The significance of the plans is crucial for the establishment of the museum. The Finnish Wilderness Museum Foundation acts as a sub-implementer of the group project, with the main implementer being the city of Imatra.

The foundation's sub-project focuses on the technical design (HVAC) of the museum spaces for the future Wilderness and Nature Culture Museum and the spatial design from the perspective of museum operations processes. The role of the sub-project is to bring the perspective of various museological work processes into the architectural design and ensure that architects and other project designers have sufficient and up-to-date information on museum operations requiring special conditions and structural solutions. In other words, the building design produced in the city of Imatra's work package needs information related to the museum's operational processes, structural and technical requirements, and future content, which is generated as a result of the foundation's sub-project. The foundation also participates in the design by producing a subordinate exhibition architect draft for the chief architect and supplementary studies, such as the technical (structural, HVAC) requirements of various exhibition elements.

Additionally, the sub-project produces project communication. Communication is carried out between different actors and other stakeholders, as well as externally to residents, decision-makers, and others interested in the museum project. In a large, multidisciplinary project, the role of planned and controlled communication is emphasized.
