Nationwide Fishing Heritage Network

Project duration: April 1, 2026 – October 31, 2026

Funding: Keskitien säätiö

The Wilderness Museum Foundation of Finland is launching a nationwide fishing heritage network that brings together stakeholders dedicated to safeguarding the cultural heritage of fishing, including companies, associations, researchers, and private individuals. The aim is to strengthen cooperation and to find new ways to pass on fishing-related cultural heritage to future generations.

Fishing heritage in Finland is, so far, an underutilized resource. Making it more visible can enhance regional vitality and create new opportunities, for example in the tourism sector. Through the project, the Wilderness Museum Foundation of Finland will take an active role in identifying, documenting, and developing this heritage.

The network will operate as a regularly convening collaborative forum where expertise is shared and a sustainable future for fishing is built. The project will be launched with an event in Imatra at the Vuoksi Fishing Park, and during the project thematic meetings will also be held on the history, present state, and future of fishing. Some of the events will be open to the public.
