The Wilderness Heritage Foundation of Finland

Roots of Wilderness Heritage – Paths of the Future

The purpose of the Wilderness Heritage Foundation of Finland is to cherish and promote Finnish wilderness and nature heritage both nationally and internationally.

The Wilderness Heritage Foundation of Finland was established in November 2021 in Imatra. Its purpose is to cherish, collect, and present Finnish wilderness and nature heritage while also collecting, documenting, and researching both material and immaterial cultural heritage.

To fulfill this purpose, the foundation maintains a museum whose central focus is on growing and maintaining meaningful and intergenerational relations to nature and supporting Finnish wilderness culture, both material and immaterial heritage, to pass on among people and communities to connect the past and the future. The museum will open to the public in the coming years.

The Wilderness Heritage Foundation of Finland was established by the city of Imatra, the Hunting Museum of Finland, the Fishing Museum of Finland, and OP Financial Group of South Karelia.
