Initiation of the Wilderness and Nature Culture Museum
Project Duration: March 1, 2022 – July 31, 2024
Funding: Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry
The project produced essential documents and various studies needed to support the museum's establishment decision and investment decisions.
The concept handbook for the Wilderness and Nature Culture Museum of Finland (later Wilderness Museum) was completed in October 2023 after a year of work and extensive, participatory stakeholder collaboration. The concept handbook preliminarily defined the core of the museum's operations, such as the museum's purpose and value base, user groups, services, and the desired customer experience.
The collection policy program for the Wilderness Museum was completed in late spring 2024. During the preparation of the collection policy program, extensive research was conducted on existing wilderness-themed collections in Finnish museums. The project produced a report on the museum's regional economic impacts and a business plan for the museum.
The implementation plan for the museum compiles all the aforementioned documents and other essential perspectives and information necessary for the museum's implementation. The implementation plan was completed in the summer of 2024.
The initiation project for the Wilderness and Nature Culture Museum has succeeded in increasing awareness of the living wilderness cultural heritage and the need to establish a national Wilderness Museum through communication and project activities. Additionally, supportive activities for the project have been created, and new processes and projects supporting the establishment of the museum have been successfully initiated.
